U.S. companies cashing dark chocolates by terming them as health foods

Companies such as Hershey Co. and Lindt & Sprungli Co. Plc. have completely revolutionized the image of dark chocolates and the sales are roarin high in the U.S. irrespective of the health risks involved. The dark chocolate sales have risen up by 49% between 2003 and 2006.

The reasons for the high sales are that people are not aware of the health risks and it taste good. With the increase in customer base more companies are mass marketing dark chocolates. Some companies are even naming dark chocolates as health food.

The dark chocolate trend is said to be started around five years back. Dark chocolates contain approximately 75% cacao as compared to 45% in other types. However, nutritionists and health officials are warning people and companies about the so called health food i.e. dark chocolates. With some cardiovascular benefits, it is really high in fats and calories.
