Venus Williams: From Tennis Court to Fashion Week Runway

Born on 17th June, 1980 Venus Williams, is an American????? Professional tennis player who is a former no. 1 and is ranked world no. 41 as on September 10, 2012in singles. Venus became No.1 for the first time on February 25, 2002 becoming the first African American women to beat this feat during the open era. Venus has won four Olympic gold medals, one in singles ans three in women doubles. She and her sister Serena Williams have won gold medals more than any other female players in tennis.

The William sisters have played against each other in 23 professional matched. Out of these 23 matches, Venus was knocked down by sister Serena in 13 matches.

Venus Williams: The Entrepreneur

The ace sports woman has two companies as an addition to her rocking sports career. She is the chief executive officer of her interior design company, ?V Starr Interiors? located in Jupiter, Florida. The company has to its claim, designing the set of the ?Tavis Smiley Show? on PBS. In 2001, she haso been named listed as one of the most powerful 30 women in America by the ?Ladies Home Journal?.

In the year 2007, the star collaborated with retailer Steve & Barry’s and launched her own fashion brand by the name ?EleVen?. At the time of the launch of this brand Venus said – “I love fashion and the idea that I am using my design education to actually create clothing and footwear that I will wear on and off the tennis court is a dream comes true for me. The vision has been to create a collection that will allow women to enjoy an active lifestyle while remaining fashionable at the same time. I’m thrilled with everything we’ve created to launch EleVen.” It is now known that William’s progression from an athlete to a businesswoman has been quite phenomenal.

Joint owner of Miami Dolphins with sister Serena, an interior design company, operator of Jamba Juice Shops across Mid-Atlantic and the fashion house EleVen to her fleet of achievements this champ has come a long way. It was mersmerizing to see how much involved this sports star was in each and every nitty-gritty at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Catwalk. The champ gave USA Today, a sneak preview of behind the scenes. It is, indeed amazing to see, how this African girl has come a long way, first in the world of sports and now in the US business scene.
