Remote. Thats what experts predict.
High. Going by the rumours and all the hype.

Fans believe Heath Ledger deserves an Oscar for his potrayal of the deranged villian, The Joker, in the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight. Even though he may no longer be alive but many feel he deserves an immortal place in the history of Academy awards.

Some veteran critics and Oscar watchers feel this is just a hype based on internet rumours. Fans always vouch for a rare event at Oscars. Posthumous Oscar will be rare event afterall.

This won’t be the first time that an actor will be nominated after his death. Peter Finch got one for Network in 1976. But James Dean who had great fan following was nominated twice after his death for East of Eden and Giant, but he didn’t win any academy award. There are couple of more instances. Sympathy doesn’t work for academy awards.

Fans, don’t be disappointed, this time critics are not against Heath Ledger or his portrayal of The Joker but they feel that the film itself may not fit into academy awards class. The Dark Knight is a comic book type action adventure, not generally favoured by Oscar voters.

Of course one never knows, though he may not be around for hugging the award and people, Heath Ledger may surprise everyone by getting a nomination and maybe even win the award for being best villian in his immortal reel life.
