The Bollywood actress and former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is now associated with United Nations Organization in their awareness drive against AIDS. The actress has been appointed as one of the Goodwill Ambassadors of the organization along with other international icons. UN is presently focusing on the battle against the increase of HIV infection among kids.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan recently attended a press conference in New York at UN HQ. She was present there with Michel Sidibe, the Executive Director of UNAids (the joint UN Program on AIDS). The Indian diva is quite elated with her novel appointment for such an esteemed international awareness program. She told that this move is a ‘milestone’ in her life and being associated with this project is much higher than becoming a mere news headline.
It is well-known that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has always been linked with some or the other health related projects, but when it comes to mother and child, she is allthe time ready with full enthusiasm. Now when she is herself a mother of a new-born baby, she completely comprehends the conern towards the health of the baby. With her personal joys and experiences she will now put all her efforts to make this awareness drive a success all over the world. Aishwarya also personally feels that every mother and child has the right to stay away from dire consequences of the deadly disease like AIDS and with the help of UNAIDS, the actress will make all possible moves to give proper treatment to all HIV infected mothers and their babies.
As per the Aishwarya’s selection as the ambassador for this campaign is concerned, it is her global popularity that would be able to attract more and more people towards her words. People across the world know her very well and for a global face, it is very easy to relate with people and to convince them to adopt preventive measures against AIDS.
Aishwarya’s agenda for the AIDS awareness program would include the formulation of a Global plan on how to eradicate the HIV infection from the kids and to keep their mothers healthy. She will also be a part of the campaign where UNAIS will educate the families for protection against HIV so that new born babies do not get infection from their mothers.
Aishwarya herself announced that she will be an active participant of UNAIDS rather than being a poster girl.
