13 women feared dead in stampede in Mughalsarai station

At least 13 women were feared dead due to a stampede in Mughalsarai station, said to be the biggest railway junction in the country. More than 40 people were injured in the sudden increased rush at the two connecting platforms in Mughalsarai station on Wednesday afternoon. The incident happened at 1:45 PM on platform number five and six.

According to the Mughalsarai Divisional Railway Manager H K Kala, the incident happened all of a sudden when two trains arrived at adjoining platforms, platform number five and six, around 1345 hours. People started coming out from both the trains in a hurry that led to the sudden stampede at the platforms.

The report further said that all the dead persons and most of the injured were women. They all were climbing stairs when the stampede took place. The women were going to Varanasi to take a bath in the Ganges. It was a holy day on October 3, on the occasion of putrajaya, a local festival. Additional DRM Harindra Rao said that the railway administration sent the injured people to hospital for treatment.
