45-year old hobo soup catering to latest food trends

hobo soup 7Newspaper publisher from Ortonville, Minn, Lem Kaercher’s Hobo soup, concocted in 1960, has reportedly been sold-out at an eBay auction, but facts provided claim that the 45-year old soup is still manufactured and distributed by Hobo Soup Inc. in a package of 24 cans for $50.

History records that Lem, himself a hobo, wanted to share the unique hobo soup with the rest of the world, which he extracted from a hobo camp during a research on the hobo community.

Though the original homemade recipe is kept a secret by Lem, yet the ingredients of the soup are mentioned on the label, which comprises water, beans, dehydrated potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, celery, onions, bacon, turnips, peppers, seasoning and spices.

There is no evidence to prove that the flavor of original homemade hobo soup is carried down to the consumers by the canned version, but this 45-year old junkyard soup at least caters to the latest food trends in its heat and eat formulae, giving the convenience of a one-pot meal, with loads of vegetables, properly balanced with texture, nutrients and flavors.
