12 killed, 40 injured in blast in Masjid near Hyderabad Charminar

At least twelve people died and 40 people injured in a bomb blast during Friday prayers at the crowded Mecca Masjid, one of the oldest masjid, near Charminar in Hyderabad.

According to the report, the blast happened just before the routine namaz at around 1:20 pm Friday afternoon. The officials of city administration rushed to the blast site immediately after the blast. The injured people were sent to the Osmania Hospital.

DCP South Zone, Kanta Rao said that the bomb exploded at the time when thousands of people were gathered for the Friday prayers in the oldest masjid.

After the blast, people ran outside in panic and started pelting stones at the shops in the area. The situation has become tense and there is report coming that some people even pelted stones on police personnel.

According to the local Majlis MP, Asauddin Owaissi, 12 people had been died and 40 were critically injured. The report says that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajshekhar Reddy, who is currently in Delhi, had a telephonic talk with DGP Basith and gathered information about the blast.

He told media in Delhi that this is an intentional sabotage and an attack on the peace and harmony in the state.
