The hero of sci-fi flicks is apparently trying hard to get rid of the Scientologist tag. Will Smith’s novel venture into the academic world with his school New Village Academy is nevertheless seeped with controversy. The school, slated to open on 3rd September at Calabasas, California, is rumoured to have devout inclinations towards L.Hubbard’s much-derided system of ‘study technology’. However, the school’s agenda does not include any such classes on ‘Dianetics, ‘Operating Thetan’ or ‘The Inner Engram’.
Surprisingly enough, what does feature in the teaching list is, a vivid emphasis on robotics. The Educational Philosophy site of the school bears testimony to that. It seems like Smith is really keen on making children aware of correct construction and programming of robots! The Hollywood star has himself been quoted to have expressed his wish about creating an environment in which students can feel happy, positive and excited about learning. That does sound exciting enough, but one expects better judgment from the star of I, Robot wherein creations rise up against their creator. Wish Smith could learn something from his films!
