Madonna’s “Sticky and Sweet” tour experienced a sour moment today as a stage set collapsed today in Velodrome stadium in Marseille, France, leaving one person dead and six injured. Luckily, the frightful incident occurred when the technicians were setting up the stage for a concert scheduled on Sunday. However, the concert now stands canceled in the wake of the freak incident.

BBC reports that the scene could have been worse if the stage had collapsed right away, but the initial shaking and collapsing gave enough chance to several people to get out and avoid being hit.

About 50 people from a range of nationalities were working to set up the structure, city sports official Richard Miron said.

Up to a dozen people are believed to have been underneath the stage when the accident occurred at around 1715 (1515 GMT).

The roof “started shaking and collapsing” gradually, said Marseille city councillor Maurice Di Nocera.

“Since it did not collapse right away, that allowed several people to get out, to avoid being hit,” he said.

Madonna, who was in Udine, Italy, when the incident took place, has issued a statement sharing her concern and sympathy with the people affected by this accident.
