Neil Diamond had started his singing career in 1960s and he was young and rising singer when he wrote the song ‘Sweet Caroline’. Neil had so far kept a secret about this song and he revealed it while talking to The Associated Press on Monday, that he was inspired by President Kennedy’s daughter Caroline to write this song. He wanted to share this secret with Caroline herself and he got a chance after so many years, when last week he sang the song for her, via satellite at Caroline Kennedy’s 50th Birthday.

Neil said, remembering, that he was young then when he saw Caroline’s photo in a news magazine. It was a photo of the President’s daughter dressed in her riding gear standing by her pony. By seeing such an innocent and wonderful picture, he directly had the thought of the song and composed it. It proved to be a No.1 record and also a very important song for his career. He said that he wanted to thank her for the inspiration and now was feeling like a weight being lifted from his heart. Before saying this to Caroline he had the opinion that she might feel embarrass or so but to his surprise, Caroline seemed to be impressed and was happy.

‘Sweet Caroline’ is played at every home game of Boston Red Sox and Neil thinks that the song must be considered good luck for the baseball team. The song had been written 40 years back and the singer finds himself speechless while feeling the return of the song to charts. Right now Diamond is working on a new album with producer Rick Rubin and says that they both are very much excited about that.
