In a shocking incident of broad daylight rape, two salesmen in Delhi’s famous Palika Bazaar raped a 23-year-old girl on Saturday morning. The report says that the salesmen, Narendra and Ashok had taken the girl to the first floor of the underground market as the girl was buying some cloths for her. Suddenly the two men locked the door and raped her inside the trial room of the shop.

The shameful incident took place at a time during the daytime, when the market was bustling with crowd. Later, the police reached at Palika Bazar and arrested two accused from the shop.

The victim said in a written statement to the police:

It was 11 am and I was buying earrings from a shop in the complex, when a salesman from a shop opposite it approached me for looking at some clothes.

I was shown a few suits and the salesman said that the shop’s trial room is on the first floor.

I went to the first floor and when I was trying the suit, the salesman locked the door leading to the stairs and pounced on me.

According to police, the accused had stuffed a cloth in the woman’s mouth and raped her. Later, the girl managed to escape and went straight to the market association. The matter went to the police at 2 PM.

This may be the best example that how the national capital has become unsafe for women. They cannot feel safe and secure even in the daytime and even in the crowded places such as Palika Bazar.

Earlier, I had written in an article that Delhi is the most unsafe place for women. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) had come out with a report ‘Crime in India manual for 2005’ that had revealed that Delhi has the highest rate of crime against women i.e. 27.6 per lakh population. However, the national average is 14.2 per lakh population of women.

Delhi has the highest percentage of crimes against women in comparison with 35 big cities with population of above 10 lakh. 562 cases out of 1,693 rape cases or one-third of total rape cases are registered in Delhi alone.
