MCI President Ketan Desai arrested on graft charges

CBI has arrested President of Medical Council of India Ketan Desai and two others for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs two crore to grant recognition to a medical college in Punjab. Desai was arrested late last night after the CBI conducted searches at his office here following information that he along with his associate Jitender Pal Singh was allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs two crore to recognise a college in Punjab, CBI spokesperson Harsh Bahal said today.
Bahal said that Desai along with Singh and another associate Dr Kanwaljit Singh of Gyan Sagar Medical College in Punjab have been arrested by CBI on corruption charges. The spokesperson said that the three were being interrogated and searches were going on at six other places in Delhi and outside.
The CBI laid a trap after receiving a complaint and caught Singh allegedly with Rs 2 crore which was to be delivered to Desai. The agency also conducted raids in Punjab, Delhi and Gujarat to trace Desai”s other associates.
The main objectives of the Medical Council include maintenance of uniform standards of medical education and recommendation for recognition/de-recognition of medical qualifications of medical institutions of India or foreign countries.

All these medical colleges have to be get approved by the All India Medical Council for their quality and functioning. Just imagine in case all 31172 medical colleges existing in India,as per data available,have bribed some one like Ketan Desai,there is a deluge or an overwhelming number or amount that has been a national waste.

Criminal-politicians
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2002, candidates with criminal records won 206 out of 403 seats in the assembly, i.e. more criminals were elected than regular politicians. In Uttar Pradesh state assembly elections, 2007 74% more criminal politicians were given tickets by the mainstream parties.

In July 2008 Washington Times reported that nearly a fourth of the 540 Indian Parliament memb, rapeers faced criminal charges, “including human trafficking, immigration rackets, embezzlement and even murder”.
Notable convicted or charged criminal
Shibu Soren allegedly started his political career by using mob attacks to eliminate political opponents. He became a minister in 2004. He continues as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand as of 2008 even though he has been sentenced to life for murder.
In 2005, a charged serial killer and terrorist Raghuraj Pratap Singh became the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies.
Pappu Kalani is currently on bail in 19 cases including eight murdersand was most recently elected Member of the Legislative Assembly for Ulhasnagar.
Mohammad Shahabuddin is the Member of Parliament from Siwan, Bihar. He is currently serving a life sentence for kidnapping with intent to murder, and is facing trial in more than thirty criminal cases including eight of murder, twenty of attempted murder, as well as kidnapping, extortion, etc.

Mayawati is the richest politician in India. Several cases are pending against her. Among others, her administration planned to build a shopping center next to the Taj Mahal.
I remember a case of philanderer Premananda in Trichy,who was tried for his sex scandals and the session judge awarded him a sentence of 60 years twice ie 120 years to undergo rigorous jail term. If the judicial system has an iron hand there is a hope that India would flourish just as China otherwise these of number of vile and morally reprehensible, who would do something as despicable as murder the naation itself.Are not these scandals ugly crimes,a national shame?
