Infiltration is at its lowest level in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), according to Army Chief General J.J. Singh. Is it an indication of reduction of troops in the troubled state?

The reduction in number of terrorist incidents like bomb blasts, terror attacks, bloodshed is an indication of violence and infiltration ebbing down in the state.

The army chief is indeed correct in stating that the state is peaceful now as compared to earlier years when violence and bloodshed ruled the roost in the state.

The ceasefire between the Indian government and the militant groups certainly gave time to the Indian army to regroup, strategize, assimilate, and corner the LOC.

A vast presence of foreign troops in Afghanistan and Iraq has helped in checking the terror activities in other parts of the world, especially in Jammu and Kashmir, India.

Moreover, terrorism always made its route into India from across the border from Pakistan, which is itself embroiled in internal turmoil that it has lost control of the terror links that were active in India.

Bin Laden is himself hiding for his life and mostly eyeing Iraq and Afghanistan at present, therefore giving some respite to J&K. people to people contact and lessening of strain in relations with Pakistan has also aided peace in the state.

Restoration of a popular government in the state has provided ample opportunities for development and employment to the youth brigade, who was earlier misled and misguided by the terrorist activities, now find solace in peace.

More so, Indian army is all the more active and aware of the developments taking place in and around the neighborhood and has itself actively participated in restructuring the state and helping the locals.

Northeast has also witnessed ebbing of militant activities, though the progress here is not as much as is witnessed in J&K.

Therefore, the reduction in he number of troops in such terror fragile regions is on the agenda of the government.

However, a sudden withdrawal of forces might result in giving airs to the terror groups to reunite and activate themselves to split blood in the region.

A right attitude is the need of the hour today.
