Ahead of assembly election in Gujarat, the top brass leaders of Bhartiya Janta Party have started taking steps to patch-up with ‘dissident’ leaders in the state. BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley, who was on a two-day tour of Gujarat, said that the dissident leaders and the senior leader Keshubhai Patel will be remained an integral part of the party to help BJP to register victory again this time.
According to the report, Arun Jaitley met with Patel during his 2-day visit in state. After discussing on different issues, he said that BJP’s Parliamentary Board would meet before Diwali to prepare a final list of its candidates for the Assembly elections. Earlier, some of the BJP rebels had claimed regarding the blessings and leadership of Keshubhai against his so-called fight against State CM Narendra Modi.
Now, Jaitly’s statement has given a clear indication about the possible patch-up with Keshubhai Patel, who is the single heavyweight political leaders among the other rebels.
The report says that the BJP’s strategy to convince Keshubhai would definitely weaken the anti-Modi rebels in state. Earlier, Keshubhai had also declared that his son would be contesting as an Independent candidate in this assembly election. The BJP leadership is likely to give the patch-up with Patel a better shape to convince the whole Patel community.
This is also being said that Keshubhai’s, who is not part of the state election committee, views will be taken into consideration in the selection process of candidates particularly in the areas of his control.
If we talk about the options Keshubhai has, this is clear that at this point of time, he cannot knock the doors of the Congress. He cannot rely on other rebel leaders to carry forward his political career in state politics. He would definitely take the options into consideration to lower his voice against Modi when the BJP leadership is ready to give him the due importance in the decision making process.
Further, the BJP has also decided not to take any further disciplinary action against the rebels including Somabhai Patel and Vallabhai Kataria.
At the same time, Modi will be the one and only strategist for the party and he has already eclipse Advani in the state’s scheme of things. Modi has earned a great mass base in state politics. In the party functions, Modi begins his speeches after the other sopeakers because people do not stay after his speech.
In the festive season of Durga Puja, Modi is visiting one city each day to take rounds of garba pandals. It will be interesting to see how Modi and Krshubhai would share a single platform after so long.
