Can You Clean Your Home in an Hour?

How much time do you want to spend cleaning your house? Many people say that they don’t have the time, but in reality, it just takes a little creativity. There are many ways to clean your house in an hour or less. This blog post will go over some of those and share ideas for how you can keep your home spick and span without spending too much time on it.

1. Sweep/Mop the Floors

How long does it take to sweep or mop your floors? Five minutes maybe? In my experience, with a bit of practice and the right tools, you can be done in three. It’s all about using what you have at home for this step. If you have an electric sweeper, check the battery life before starting. If it needs to be plugged in, find an outlet close to where you’re working. Ditto for the mop – if it’s electric, make sure you have an extension cord you can use.

2. Dust the Furniture

Dusting furniture takes a bit more time than sweeping or mopping floors, but it’s still a relatively short task. You can do it in about 10 minutes if you work quickly and don’t spend too much time on any one piece of furniture. Again, use what you have at home to make the job easier. Place rugs or towels over your furniture legs to avoid leaving footprints, and dust the surfaces with a microfiber cloth or duster. If you need great furniture items, barn door hardware for your sliding barn door would be a great look in your home.

3. Vacuum the Carpet

This task can be completed relatively quickly if you have the right tools. If you have a cordless vacuum cleaner, make sure the battery is charged before you start. If not, find an outlet close to where you’re working. Vacuuming carpets usually takes me around 15 minutes, but I have to stop and clean out the bin or find a new outlet several times throughout.

4. Clean the Kitchen

Cleaning the kitchen is often one of the more time-consuming tasks for house cleaning, but with a bit of planning and organization, it doesn’t have to be. Try to clear out and clean one counter at a time, and remember to put things back where you found them.

5. Empty the Trash

Empty the trash when it’s full. If you can’t find an empty trash bag or can liner in your home, try using newspaper instead (make sure you’re recycling it after). This should only take about five minutes or so, depending on the size of your trash bin (and how much trash you have to take out).

6. Clean the Bathroom

Cleaning bathrooms is another task that can take quite some time if you want it to. However, most people don’t need their bathrooms to look like professionals have scrubbed them. A quick wipe of surfaces, counters, and toilet seats is usually good enough for most people. If you plan on doing more intensive cleaning in this space (such as deep-cleaning the shower or bathtub), set aside an extra 10 to 15 minutes for the job.

7. Organize Your Drawers

Most homes have at least one junk drawer. And if you’re like me, you probably have several! Organizing your drawers doesn’t take too much time (usually only 10 to 15 minutes), and it will allow you to immediately tell what’s missing or needs replacing when you need something specific.

8. Sweep/Mop the Kitchen Floor

Cleaning the kitchen floor takes a little more time than cleaning other surfaces, but it’s still not difficult. Sweep the kitchen floor before you mop it. This will help pick up any loose dirt or particles that might scratch your feet as you clean them. Wipe down counters and other surfaces while you wait for the floor to dry (if you have an electric sweeper, this will speed up the process).

9. Vacuum the Bedroom

Vacuuming your bedroom usually only takes a few minutes. If you have a cordless vacuum cleaner, make sure the battery is charged before you start. If not, find an outlet close to where you’re working. Vacuuming carpets usually takes me around 15 minutes, but I have to stop and clean out the bin or find a new outlet several times throughout.

10. Freshen Up the Bedroom

Making your bed, changing your sheets and pillowcases, and spraying a little room freshener can all help make your bedroom feel more refreshed. This only takes a few minutes, and it’s a great way to end your cleaning routine for the day.

House cleaning can be a daunting task, but it becomes much more accessible by breaking it into smaller, more manageable tasks. These are just some of the functions that can be completed in a relatively short amount of time. There are plenty of other things that can be done. If you have a busy schedule, it’s a good idea to plan out your cleaning for the week. This will ensure that things get done quickly and efficiently so you won’t have to spend hours taking care of these chores.
