The builder, Ashok Malhotra, one-time auto rickshaw driver later turned into builder, was running the canteen of Delhi Assembly.

The CBI team found more than 50 luxurious cars and 10 motorcycles from his residence with special VIP number plates. Malhotra’s neighbors were also surprised after the CBI raids in his house. One of the neighbor’s said:

All we knew was that he ran a canteen at the Delhi Assembly and earlier he used to drive an auto rickshaw but we didn’t have a clue about all these cars.

Further, the CBI team reportedly recovered more than 5,500 land documents in the raid. Earlier on July 26, the CBI had filed chargesheet against Ashok Malhotra and five other DDA employees; three of them were former deputy directors, under the charges of selling plots meant for allocation to displaced slum dwellers. The CBI team found that the plots had been allotted to fictitious persons.
