Comfort Food rolled out to boost your health this winter

yt8789What can be the menu for Canadians who want to have tasty and healthy food during winters? Well a single casserole, cooking up something really quick or making a mix-mash of all foods makes you compromise with the quality of food with respect to the nutritional benefits.

When you cannot assimilate health and taste in one casserole, you can add to your platter something extra without any extra efforts. How? I would prefer listing the tips for you rather than elaborating much on it. The menu for a comfortable and healthy meal is as follows:

1. Add fruit juices instead of water or stocks in your stews. The fruit can be tomato puree, orange juice, melon juice or the fruit that you feel would match with the flavor of your stews.
2. Eat your daily serving of fruits and vegetables, in salad bars or stews and soups.
3. You can cook lots of lentils with meat to get proteins in a single bowl
4. Winter is the time for barbecued foods, so set the skewers on fire with your favorite meats, vegetables and tofu.
5. Having brown bread, waffles, and whole grain breads instead of white flour bread.
6. Eating the first-meal of the day, in other words not skipping breakfast.

You just have to pick and accumulate everything healthy to make a casserole or make an assortment of comfort foods in a single platter. My comfort food platter would contain a toast, stewed vegetables and a barbecued chicken. They are yummy and healthy too.
