Politics can be a circus or a fiasco as one decides. The whitewashing of the UPA and specifically the age old Congress Party in the 2014 General elections was enough we thought. But no, the last laugh on BJP fails to fade even with that the Congress has not even been able to decide on a leader of Opposition till date. Perhaps the snobs that they have been, they still consider this has to be decided with equal élan as the choice for PM. Times of India @timesofindia brought news, “No word from Sonia on leader of opposition, says Sumitra Mahajan.” Mahajan says that the opportune moment to announce the name will be just prior to the Budget Session.
However, we wonder if this is just a cover up for the confusion that is reigning among the Congress leaders or if they are sore from their defeat sting even now! We are amused at the delay and even surprised at their high handedness even now. Kamaal R Khan KRK @kamaalrkhan tweets, “There was time when congress was not ready to accept less than PM post n today congress is requesting for post of opposition leader. Hahaha.”
Despite the jeers going around the seriousness of this delay cannot be overlooked. Scroll.in @scroll_in tweets, “Failure to appoint Leader of Opposition would undermine democratic checks and balances.” However, staunch names such as Sushil Kumar Modi @SushilModi have tweeted, “Congress had refused Leader of Opp status in 1984 when TDP was the largest opposition party with 30 seats. Why begging now for LOP?” This makes us wonder if the ego of this party is too big for its own self?
In fact, incredibly, Dibang tweets, “Congress to take legal help if denied post of leader of Opposition.” Is this not much hue and cry over something too petty? That’s called making a mountain of a molehill.
