In the high-profile Naina Sahani murder case, the Delhi High Court has upheld the death sentence awarded to Sushil Sharma. Sharma, the one-time Congress youth leader, was convicted in the murder of his wife Naina Sahani on July 2, 1995.

Earlier, the trial court in Delhi had convicted Sharma and awarded him death penalty in November 2003. Later, Sharma had appealed in the Delhi High court against the judgment on December 8, 2003.

The defence lawyers had argued Naina and Sharma were not married. They had questioned the allegations made against Sharma in their appeal to the High court.

However, among the 105 witnesses, most of the witnesses had testified against Sharma during the trial. Later, the High Court rejected Sharma’s claims and upheld his death sentence.

Now, the only hope left for Sharma is Supreme Court but legal experts have said that his chances are bleak now. The Supreme Court would likely uphold the lower and High Court’s decision in this famous Tandoor case.
