British actor with parents of Indian origin, Dev Patel has now been literally told to learn to speak the way his Gujarati Indian parents speak ??? aka speak English with an Indian accent. Dev, who managed to swoon critics and females alike, with his performance as Jamal Malik in Danny Boyle???s multiple Academy winning movie Slumdog Millionaire is now set to appear in a Hollywood movie that???s set in Bangalore, India.
The movie titled The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel stars Dev Patel along with a bevy of Hollywood heavy weights such as Judi Dench, Dame Maggie Smith and Bill Nighy as residents of an elderly nursing home of Bangalore. Directed by the acclaimed John Madden who is more popularly known for his Shakespeare in Love, the movie makers felt that Dev would not be able to do justice to his role with his British accent. He was therefore told to attend a crash course in speaking English the way Indians do.
Accompanied by his girlfriend and co-star Freida Pinto, from the hit Slumdog Millionaire, Dev during his 20 day session at Jaipur under diction expert Vidhur Chaturvedi managed to wow him with his dedication. Admitting to his fear of disappointing work master Madden???s expectations, Dev recalled an incident when he was last frightened as a child and how he had run out just in his towels screaming for his dad at the site of a mere spider on the bathroom walls. Well, Dev lets hope you have the girls screaming for you when The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel releases later this year.
