The humanity in present world is taking a low dip, it seems. People are losing the sense of respect for others particularly for women and girls. On July 14, ten-year-old Asma was returning home from Swami Vivekananda School in Chembur with her sister Sana. A group of men in their 20s reportedly started trailing them in their jeep.
Asma’s elder sister said:
The boys were in a jeep. They were making gesticulations. I thought I would move back and let them go.
They purposely came close to my sister. Her skirt got entangled and she was dragged. Her hand came under the wheel of the car.
Now, Asma is living through the pain of injuries. She is admitted in hospital. Anyone can feel the pain in her eyes and her near death experience when the eve teasers drove the vehicle over her.
Asma’s mother, Ayesha said:
Her hand and her back are fractured. There is also a lot of skin that has been lost.
Police Inspector, Chembur Police Station, Balasaheb Pachundkar said on the incident that the driver of the vehicle, Mahendra Kamble, 22, has been charged with driving without a license. The owner of the car has been charged for letting him drive the car. Later, Mahendra has been let off on bail.
Mahendra, including other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the incident, have been charged with eve teasing. Now, Asma is still crying of pain and the eve teasers are roaming free out of the custody. Asma’s mother is asking for justice to her 10-year-old daughter. She said:
I want justice for my daughter. They have already got bail and there is nothing I can do about it.
Asma has undergone two surgeries and still is in a critical condition. According to the doctors her vertebrae has been fractured. She has suffered grievous injuries on her right hand also.
On the other hand, one of the accused says they are innocent. Mahendra Kamble said that he had actually lost control of the vehicle in a bid to turn sharply past a hand cart and hit the girl. He said:
We didn’t say anything to the girl, we don’t even look at girls, how can we eve-tease them.
