Bangalore is one of the fastest growing cities in India and the city has become the base of various IT companies in recent past. However, a recent study has revealed that Bangalore is sitting right on a potentially seismic fault.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has recently concluded a study on the seismic region in the country. According to Prof T G Sitharam of Civil Engineering Department of IISc, there is a sign of the presence of potentially active geological structures in the vicinity of Bangalore. One of them passes right through the IISc campus.

Now, the experts are busy in exposing the danger level of the possible earthquakes in the city and they are also watching that how the new buildings would respond to even a moderate earthquake.

The report says that Bangalore had experienced several earthquakes; most of them were minor, in the past years. At that time the damage was not so big. But now, the city’s scenario has been changed and in last 20 years the city has been developed rapidly.

The companies have built new buildings and residential colonies on dry lake beds. Now, the scientists are busy to identify sub-regions within Bangalore and to reveal the resistance level of these new constructions in the city.
