Barry Gibb, the former Bee Gee who had bought Johnny Cash’s house which was destroyed by fire the last week said that he is planning to build a new home near the burnt house of the legend. The house was inhabited by Johnny Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash for decades before their deaths in 2003.

Gibb said in a statement,

Linda (Gibb’s wife) and I have decided to build our own home on the higher ground surrounding the Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash home and the original foundations shall be kept in tact and preserved for the people of Hendersonville and the people of Nashville.

The lakeside home in Hendersonville, a suburb 20 miles northeast of Nashville, was reduced to ashes as it caught fire leaving behind just the stone chimneys. The Cashes had moved into the 13,880-square-foot home in the late 1960s. Johnny Cash did much of his legendy musical work in the same house, where he also entertained U.S. presidents, music royalty and visiting fans.

Gibb had bought the home in 2006 and had hoped to remodel it and move in with his wife. Gibb said that the place where the house once stood is ‘sacred and should be protected forever.’

Fire investigators say that they have investigated the cause of the fire, but have not yet released it. The fire spread quickly because a highly flammable wood preservative had been applied to the exterior of the house.
