Many showbiz folks are notoriously wild. But lately there has bad news of many celebs making a mess out of their lives. Where as lyricist Amy Winehouse is fighting her personal demons with booze ,drugs and devilish glares at the paparazzi, another celeb has fallen into a rut too.
CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) star for eight years, Gary Dourdan, has been charged with possession of drugs. The police found him asleep in his car in the wee hours of the morning in Palm Springs, 100 miles from LA. He was clearly under the influence of drugs and was incoherent at the time of arrest. Being charged on drugs is a serious crime and Dourdan is in for a long haul in prison. Sometimes real life follows reel life too closely for comfort.
Officially Dourdan was slated to leave CSI for ‘creative’ reasons. But it is clear now that he was asked to leave the TV serial for his drug addiction. The TV bosses did not want to screw up his life and cloaked his departure from the serial with the ambiguous ‘creative’ reasons. It seems Dourdan was also going through a personal crisis too.
Life in showbiz is like a jungle, with inhuman pressures to succeed and competitors snapping at the heels constantly. Emotional support is hard to come by and the weaker and more sensitive of the stars crack up. Drugs and alcohol are poor substitutes to good solid human companionship, which is hard to come by. Showbiz is a tough task master, which leaves no room for persoanl weaknesses. It ruthlessly throws out the weaker ones. Gary Dourdan is the latest one. Remember Robert Downey Jr? He was luckier; he had a good wife.
