Nine-time Oscar nominee actor Paul Leonard Newman has given a halt to his 50 years of acting career. Newman declared this in an interview with US broadcaster ABC. The 82-year-old veteran actor claims that he has left acting because he is no longer able to perform to the best of his ability.

In an interview with ABC’s Good Morning America Newman said:

I’m not able to work anymore… at the level that I would want to. You start to lose your memory, you start to lose your confidence, you start to lose your invention. So I think that’s pretty much a closed book for me.

Newman has Academy Award, Golden Globe, Cannes Award, and Emmy Award to his credit. He has starred in more than 50 films like The Sting, Cool Hand Luke and The Color of Money for which he was awarded the Oscar as best actor in 1987. His greatest hit was Western Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in the year 1969 with Robert Redford. His latest work in 2002, Road to Perdition earned him another Oscar with an Emmy for TV mini-series, Empire Falls.

A strong believer in charity, Newman has established several camps for critically ill children and has also set up a successful Newman’s Own food company. The profits and the royalties of this food production are utilized for charity.

The American actor and film director is happily married to actress Joanne Woodward since 1958.
