After a much disputed backing by Brad Pitt for the coveted role in ‘State of Play’, Universal Pictures has finally found their man. The oscar winning New Zealander Russell Crowe will be seen playing the lead in the movie. Russell has been associated with the studio in their recent release ‘American Gangster’ and will now be seen playing the lead in their new political thriller.

The veteran actor will be seen playing a politic consultant who turns into a journalist eventually motivating the investigations of the murder of a politican’s wife, played by Edward Norton.

The conflicting issue that faces Crowe’s character is that he happened to be once the friend of Norton’s character and also had an affair with his wife. An intense character potrayed by Crowe will definitely be applauded. The actor has been known for his brilliance in carrying of intense roles and his presence in the movie will be appreciated.

Due to the pull out by Brad Pitt the movie suffered delay in production schedules. After the confirmation of Russell Crowe the movie is now set to undergo production from this month onwards. State of Play will also feature actors like Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Jason Bateman and Robin Wright Penn.

Cinegoers across the globe will know the kind of movies Universal Pictures churn out. They are filled with class and strong scripts. A lot will definitely be expected from State of Play and with Russell Crowe’s inclusion the stakes are much higher than before. Only time can tell if Russell Crowe was actually a much better choice or would Brad Pitt have given more credibility to the character.
