Japanese actress sues IMDB

japanese actress sues imdb 14

A Japanese actress is suing Internet Movie Database for publishing her real name and date of birth. The actress is over stretching privacy law by claiming the danger of harassment by ‘aggressive and overzealous fans’.

Eriko Tamura, who now lives in Los Angeles has sued IMDB for public disclosure of private facts, which legally is about the publication of truthful information which is ‘highly offensive to a reasonable person and not of legitimate concern to the public.’

The high traffic Web site IMDB posted an entry for Eriko Sakamoto, which is Tamura’s real name, and also mentions her date of birth in the separate entry for Eriko Tamura. However, both the entries don’t identify Sakamoto and Tamura as the same person.

In her filed complaint, Tamura alleges that her name and date of birth are her private facts and she has kept them ‘completely private’ because they could be used by ‘third parties to track down her residence.’
Before moving to L.A. to pursue an acting career, she was a teen-idol pop star in Japan who was compared to Britney Spears.

One is identified by his/her name, so how can you one keep it private?
