Jennifer Lopez and hubby Marc Anthony are suing the National Enquirer in European courts over the tabloid’s allegedly baseless claims that the couple was linked to a drug scandal.

Paul Tweed, who specializes in celebrity libel cases, revealed that the celebrity couple is seeking a six-figure settlement from the Enquirer and its parent company, American Media Inc.

The lawsuit will be filed first in a Belfast court, and in courts in Dublin, London and Paris in subsequent days. The lawsuit seeks monetary settlement and also an apology for an article that appeared in different versions of the Enquirer’s U.S. and international editions.

An article published on March 12 in British and Irish editions alleged that the couple was ‘caught up in a heroin scandal’ and supported the article with a 2004 picture of Anthony standing beside photographer Michael Star, who is now facing charges of heroin possession and child pornography in the U.S. The article quoted a friend of the photographer saying that Star and Anthony were friends.

Singer Marc Anthony denied any acquaintance to the criminal press photographer and said that the photograph was clicked while he had posed backstage for his fans.

National Enquirer did not respond to any phone calls and AMI spokesman Richard Balvo, declined to comment.
