Kate Beckinsale blames family problems for Anorexia

As a former anorexic, Kate Beckinsale best knows how easy it is to fall prey to the disease and how hard it is to battle. Kate recently said that it was not the images of models or actresses, but family problems, which encouraged young girls to develop the disorder.

Miss Beckinsale, who once weighed just five stones, said,

I believe anorexia, alcoholism and drug abuse in teens are more about what is happening in the home than a problem with images in the media. It is the nice girl’s way of becoming a crack whore.

Beckinsale, 33 was brought up by her mother Judy Loe, who married director Roy Battersby, after the death of her first husband. At the tender age of nine, the relationship of her mother with her new husband started hurting her. Convinced that she would be thrown out of the house some day, young Beckinsale lived under a constant fear, which culminated in her developing anorexia at 15.

The young actress claims that she had already reached a stage where she thinks she would have died. She had no trace of energy and her main aim was just to be able to stand up. The actress was finally cured for the disease and she has reached where she is now.

Anorexia experts worldwide agree to what Beckinsale says. It is widely believed that anorexia stems from low self-esteem and inability to cope up with fears and problems.
