Australia says no to controversial rapper Snoop Dogg. Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus has been barred from entering Australia because he is not ‘the sort of bloke we want in this country,’ said immigration minister Kevin Andrews Thursday.

The hip-hop icon failed character test and he was due to attend the MTV Australian Video Music Awards on Sunday with Hollywood actress Nicole Richie until the conservative government’s verdict.

Andrews said,

This man has been a member of a Los Angeles gang, and is still associated with it apparently, that’s been involved in murder, robberies and drug dealing in the LA area.

The 35-year old rapper’s visa was cancelled after he pleaded no contest to gun and drug charges in US.

The rapper now has 28 days to protest the decision.

Snoop Dogg caught headlines this month when he was sentenced to five years’ probation and 800 hours of community service after he pleaded no contest to offensive gun and drug charges in California.

Well, this is not the first incident for Snoop Dogg. In 1990 also he was convicted of cocaine possession and again was again charged with gun possession after 1993 traffic stop. In 1997, he pleaded guilty in exchange for three years’ probation and a promise to make public service announcements against violence.

He was then released of a murder charge in 1996 after the death of an alleged street-gang member killed by gunfire from the vehicle in which Snoop Dogg was traveling.

And last moth he and fellow rapper P Diddy was forced to terminate UK tour after authorities denied him a visa.
