Keira Knightley’s green dress in her new film ‘Atonement’ has been voted the best film costume of all time in a poll conducted by Sky Movies and In Style magazine. The green silk gown beat classic favorites like Marilyn Munroe’s white dress from “The Seven Year Itch” and Audrey Hepburn’s ever-inspirational little black dress in ‘Breakfast At Tiffany’s.’

Runners-up included the cult-inspiring skin-tight black leather pants worn by Olivia Newton-John in “Grease”, the blue gown worn by Kate Winslet in “Titanic” and Diane Keaton’s tie-and-waistcoat ensemble in'”Annie Hall.’

Nicole Kidman’s corset from Moulin Rouge, Liza Minnelli’s fishnet stocking and bowler hat costume from Cabaret, Cate Blanchett’s gown from “Elizabeth: The Golden Age” and Vivien Leigh’s memorable dresses from “Gone With the Wind” rounded up the top ten.

The director of Sky Movies Ian Lewis said,

There is no doubt that Keira Knightley’s dress in Atonement created a massive stir this year, so it will be interesting to see whether it attains this iconic status in years to come.

I just saw the movie yesterday, and I for once don’t think the dress or more specifically, Keira in the dress, is something that matches up to the iconic hourglass-and-gorgeous-gown combo of the Munroes and the Hepburns.
