After Paris Hilton it’s time for Nicole Richie to face driving under influence charges. In fact for quite a while Nicole is hogging the limelight for her belly bulge. Some felt that it is a celebrity stunt, while one school of thought believed that she is really in the family way. And now when it has been confirmed that she is really expecting her first baby, then her past folly, driving under influence of banned drugs and alcohol has returned to haunt her. And if convicted she may have to cool her heels behind bars for as many as five days. Sadly, for Nicole she will not be spared on the grounds of her pregnancy.
A judge related to Richie’s trial said:
We will follow the rules and Richie will not get any special treatment and her pregnancy won’t amount to squat when it comes to serving time.
Richie’s trail begins on July 11. She better keeps her fingers crossed. And perhaps Paris Hilton can draw some solace from the fact that she is not the only one to break traffic rules. But I sincerely feel that it would be better if the trial and the subsequent sentence get over soon, because any delay may affect baby’s health.
