25 years back in 1982, Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone made a mark in the music industry with her chartbuster single called ‘Everybody’ which became a huge dance floor hit and played on the radio almost the entire summer.
However, after 25 years of fame, shock videos and smash hits, the surprise on yesterday’s anniversary of Madonna’s debut was that the Material Girl wasn’t there to celebrate.
Since her 1982 blockbuster, Madonna has released 43 singles, sung 12 British No.1s, sold 200 million albums, clashed with the Catholic Church, pictured in movies, had flings with pop stars and politicians, married, divorced, remarried, caught in lesbianism, designed clothes and is now adopting African orphans.
Madonna deliberately invited controversy in 1989’s Like A Prayer video in which she pranced before images of blazing crosses and kissed a black Jesus.
The Material Girl has also starred in several box-office flops but she was honored with a Golden Globe for Evita in 1996.
After 25 years of rocking the world, the 48-year-old wife of Director Guy Richie shows no signs of retiring. She definitely is the mother of reinvention.
