Former cricketer Maninder Singh has allegedly attempted to commit suicide by slashing his wrists on Friday night. He was later admitted in Shanti Mukund Hospital in east Delhi in a critical condition.

Later, doctors, who operated upon him, told media persons that Maninder is now out of danger. G S Mathur, Medical Superintendent, said that Maninder has been kept under observation at the Intensive Care Unit. His vitals are being maintained and he is conscious now.

Police recently had caught Maninder in a drug case in Delhi. The Narcotics Wing of the Delhi Police had caught Maninder and Sayyam Siddique with 1.5 grams of cocaine from near his residence.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajay Chaudhary said that the doctors have just told us that Maninder is out of danger but he is kept in the operation theatre for further observation. He is sill not in a position to make a statement.

Police is still not saying anything that whether it was an accident or a suicide attempt. DCP Choudhary said:

We have not spoken to the doctors in detail about his injuries. We will be able to reach at any conclusion only after knowing the exact nature of his injury.

The police said that they had received a call at around 1 AM about the incident. Maninder’s neighbour in Mausam Vihar in Preet Vihar had rushed him to the hospital after the incident.

Maninder allegedly attempted suicide by slashing wrists with a broken windowpane after a quarrel with his wife. His wife Milly Singh however denied any quarrel in Friday night and said that it was just an accident as he has accidentally fell on broken glass. On the other hand, Maninder’s friends have said that he was suffering from depression and was unhappy due to the marital discord with his wife.
