McDonald’s introduces Bigger Burger: It’s healthy or not?

Do we really need another oversized, artery-clogging burger? McDonald’s has finally added a bigger high-end Angus burger to its menu that costs a little more for the extra weight. Tested in California, this Third Pounder is really super-sized and delicious, says the reports.

It comes in three varieties at $3.99 each – the Angus Deluxe, Angus Mushroom & Swiss and Angus Bacon & Cheese. Each is made with a one-third pound, 100-percent Angus beef patty on a bakery-style sesame seed roll. Ingredients include fresh leaf lettuce, red onion rings, fresh tomatoes, sauted mushrooms and natural Swiss cheese.

Now what comes in my mind is whether this new item is a health food or not. The Consumerist says the new burger weighs in at a hefty 760 calories and 41 grams of fat. Add bacon and the burger shoots up to a whopping 860 calories and 48 grams of fat! But surprisingly (or not), the burger is a hit and may lead to the business offering it on a national scale.

If McD’s had really wished to go high end, it should have emerged with something healthier for the lot. It would have been appreciable if it had introduced a smaller, leaner burger with fresh veggies and a whole wheat bun.

The burger costs $3.99 but I won’t mind paying some extra money for a reasonably healthy menu product. What about you?
