Finally, the World has started believing what India is repeatedly saying since long about what is going on in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir and what Pakistan is doing behind the doors in the region. The 27-country European Union Parliament is reportedly ready to accept a new report on Kashmir.

The report has emphatically criticized Pakistan for playing a disputed role in PoK. The report says that Pakistan is well behind the absence of progress, democratic process and human rights in almost the half of the PoK.

The report is prepared by Baroness Emma Nicholson ‘s report is officially described by the EU as its own initiative and this is the first clear signs of European alienation with the President Musharraf’s misinformation and half truths about Pakistan’s asserted freedom-and-fairness stance on the matter of Kashmir.

The European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee adopted the report earlier this week by 60 to one, with 11 abstentions.

However, the Pakistani lobby-groups in London and Islamabad have strongly criticized the so-called controversial report on J&K and POK.

They said:

India is the world’s largest secular democracy. It has devolved democratic structures at almost all levels in the country. On the other hand, Pakistan is still lacking full implementation of democracy in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The country has yet to take steps towards democracy in Gilgit and Baltistan.

Moreover, the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee has indicated that the Parliament as a whole would likely to vote it through at a plenary session on May 23.

At the same time, some reports are indicating that the EU looking frantic to keep itself away from the J&K matter. After two days of the report adopted by the Committee, the European Parliament favors the “oui” vote that means nothing. It is merely the opinion of Parliament.

Some officials said that while the Parliament of EU is the EU’s only democratically elected body but its views are not important in the conduct of EU foreign affairs.

The 27-member European Council will not offer any opinion on Nicholson’s report on J&K. The EU has openly taken a neutral stance on J&K in recognition of India’s resistance to internationalizing the matter.
