Monica Bedi gets 5-yrs term in fake passport case

The Special Court of CBI has awarded 5-years rigorous imprisonment to Monica Bedi on the charges of cheating, criminal planning and for using fake passport.

Mandal Revenue Inspector Mohd. Younus, Assistant SI Abdul Sattar, and postal worker Gokhari Saheb have been sentenced a three-year prison term. They were accused of assisting Monica Bedi to obtain the fake passport.

Abu Salem, and two passport agents are expected to appear in the case now. The Special Court Judge examined thirty-eight witnesses and went through seventy-nine documents before making the judgment.

However, the prosecution was asking for a maximum sentence of seven years for Monica Bedi. But she was sentenced five years on the charges of cheating and three years on the each charge for conspiracy and impersonation. The three terms will go concomitantly.

The plea, to consider the 10-month jail term in Portugal as part of the sentence, made by both CBI and Monica’s counsel was rejected by the court.

S. Pradeep Kumar, Monica Bedi’s counsel, said he would go to high court against the judgment.
