Naomi Watts to play Marilyn Monroe

Naomi Watts has just earned a feather in her cap. The pretty actress has been roped in to play Marilyn Monroe in the upcoming movie, Blonde, based on the controversial 2000 novel of the same name.

According to Contactmusic,

The Australian actress will play the iconic Hollywood star – real name Norma Jeane Baker – in an adaptation of the 2000 book of the same name, which caused huge controversy upon its release because of its fictionalised graphic sex scenes. The ‘Assassination of Jesse James’ director Andrew Dominik will helm the picture, and claims the story will show how Marilyn – who died aged 36 in 1962 – was “consumed” by Hollywood.

Generally, I’m against the idea of anyone even trying to imitate the legendary sex-icon, but since it’s a movie that promises to tell Monroe’s story from a different angle, I’m fine with it. Further, I’m convinced that Naomi’s got more than just her bewitching smile. She is capable enough to portray the emotions of the troubled icon in the right light. Congratulations and all the best, Naomi!
