Indian jails in recent times have witnessed unprecedented happenings .Sometimes back the prisoners at Agra jail posed lots of problems for the jail authorities in order to create better standards of existence within four walls of jail.The Article 21 in crystal clear terms states that prisoners claim right over free legal service.However , the reality is otherwise.They rot in jail for years, being devoid of legal representation, which leads to development of sadistic traits within them.The prison authorities seem intent on converting them into hard core criminals with little realization of the fact that prison term is meant to readjust the attitude of offenders to the requirements of life.
Needless to say, there is urgent need to introduce better atmosphere within jails via prison reforms.On the one hand ‘ high profile’ prisoners have access to quality facilities and , on the other, the ordinary prisoners, including the under trials, are forced to live hellish life , leading to violent clashes and suicides or even jail -breaks.A creation of better world within jails is the only mean to stop the occurrence of such grim episodes
