Nicole Richie might be waiting impatiently for the Wednesday to come when she goes on trial for a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence, but dad Lionel Richie did his bit to comfort his darling daughter during her trying times.
Lionel Richie was answering the questions hurled towards him after his performance at the Essence Music Festival. The R&B stalwart could not hide his affection for his daughter as he defended her case, as any loving father would do. He said:
She’s just in an unfortunate situation. She keeps apologizing to me. I told her, ‘You’re doing exactly what you’re supposed to be doing to your father at this age’.
Nicole Richie, 25, pleaded not guilty when she was arrested on December 11 on a misdemeanor charge of DUI. Her case has a further allegation that she had a prior misdemeanor DUI conviction in June 2003. If she gets nailed this time, she could well end up in the jail and could attract a sentence of 90 days to a year in jail and have her driving privileges suspended as per the California vehicle code.
The Endless Love singer feels that nowadays celebrities are subjected to a very tight scrutiny as compared to his time. He further said:
There’s just so much information out there right now – MySpace, cell phones, the Internet. If we had had all that when The Commodores were around, God only knows what my mother and father would have seen.
I hope Nicole interprets the message in the right sense and avoids going over the edge after hearing those kind words from daddy dear.
