Orphaned Once Again

First of all I am grateful to Shahwar, She gave the necessary impetus to write this article.

When 20 yer old Rajni Majhi, a 20 year old student who lived in an orphanage in Orissa and was also helping the sisters there was burnt to death on 25 th August,I wrote this poem. The reasons, political, religious whatever they may be do not empower any one to inflict such pain and sufferings on any other human being and if I am able to convey even an iota of pain suffered by the victims ,my tiny effort will be successful.

ORPHANED ONCE AGAIN
————————
I was fast asleep,
on that fateful day,
dreaming my mom was coming,
she was on her way.

I woke up with a start
there was lots of noise,
everyone was running about,
“Kill them,” said an angry voice

Please spare the children,
the one caring for us was pleading,
she rushed to shut the door,
I saw she was hurt and bleeding.

Suddenly a scream and this silence,
nothing was left to hear,
Somehow I knew she was no more,
my heart was full of fear.

Why, God, Why did it happen,
I was crying out in vain,
Jesus, I did nothing wrong,
Yet I was orphaned once again.
