Pete Doherty’s sentencing gets postponed

pete dohertys sentencing gets postponed
Singer Pete Doherty can take a sigh of relief as his sentencing gets postponed to allow him to tackle his drug addiction.

The Babyshambles frontman is awaiting sentence after he admitted driving illegally while in possession of crack cocaine, heroin, ketamine and cannabis in Kensington, west London, on May 5. Doherty’s lawyer, Sean Curran, said District Judge Davinder Lachhar accepted his plea to adjourn the sentencing on Wednesday evening after his client tested negative during his six-week drugs treatment. Sean Curran said,

Pete’s doing very, very well, extremely well and he wants to give himself a chance. The court knows he’s tested negative for drugs throughout his residential programme – that’s six weeks now. The judge wants to see how he’s keeping after the aftercare before he goes back for them to assess him.

The lawyer said the relaxation would help his client finish a drug rehabilitation plan before appearing at West London Magistrates’ Court on October 26. Doherty’s residential drug rehabilitation programme will finish on Thursday. He will then get himself enrolled in an aftercare programme which will finish on October 20.
