Roman Polanski is a free man

It’s high time someone declared Switzerland as the haven for rapists and child abusers. I’ve got valid reasons folks, they have just turned down a request from US government to extradite him to the U.S. for sentencing on the infamous child-sex charge. And what more, the Swiss officials have even called off his house arrest, making him practically a free man.

According to Contactmusic,

The Rosemary’s Baby director has been under house arrest at a luxury chalet in Gstaad since he was seized in Zurich last September (09) en route to a film festival. U.S. authorities demanded the film-maker be returned to the States to face sentencing for having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977. He pleaded guilty to the offence but fled to Europe in 1978 before facing a court. But Swiss officials announced on Monday (12Jul10) that the extradition has now been turned down – because they cannot rule out the possibility that there is a “fault” in the request.

I hate this weird development as much as any sane human being is supposed to hate, but sadly, we cannot do anything more than just hate him for his gruesome crime and pity the Swiss officials for not being able to grasp the importance of the word “extradition” with regards to Polanski’s crime. So there we are – Roman Polanski is a free man!
