The Supreme Court has finally said a clear ‘no’ to stay the ongoing work to raise the height of the dam. This verdict, no doubt is a major blow to the Narmada Bachao Andolan activists.
But the court has acted very smartly this time as it has also left the whole burden of Narmada Dam controversy on shoulders of our humble Prime Minister, which he has to decide by July 3.
But bearing in mind the fast running initiative of Modi to meet the dead line for completion of Dam work before monsoon July 30, all this exercise of court seems to be futile and more like paper work. The reason being the fact that, by the time Mr. Singh will get the reports regarding the dam, the activists and affected people will be waiting in wings and the dam will be ready and there will be more or less no call for any verdict.
Looks as if, the last door has been slammed for the rehabilitation work as well. Now people can no longer rely on court for the last decision. I think the only hope left is centered on two M’s-Manmohan and Monsoon.
