Taking the stage for her final concert in front of a sold-out audience at Ceaser’s Palace, Canadian singer Celine Dion drew as much attention to her stunning voice as to her skeletal frame.
Having performed continuously for five years in over 713 shows, the visibly much-reduced Celine, with protruding collar-bones and sparrow-like chest, she certainly looked drained. The previously ‘fit-looking’ diva looked haggard and drained in a plunging white gown having obviously lost much weight.
A fantastic show and a well-deserved, long standing ovation later, Celine was joined on stage by her husband and manager Rene Angelil and the couple’s seven-year old son Rene Charles-Angelil.
The show went on to make the diva richer by £125million although the critics had initially written it off, proving that the singer is still one of the hottest performers of our times.
In an interview with the Guardian last week, however, Celine admitted she needed a break now.
In the beginning I needed to prove myself to the industry. Not any more.
Standing in the wings, watching the rest of the crew take their bow, Celine struggled to hold back tears as the capacity crowd, including celebrity fans Prince and Justin Timberlake, chanted for her.
