Sometimes back in year 2007 Shri T. V. Rajeswar, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, said that ” Sanskrit is the language of the bullock cart age “.
“Exclusive Sanskrit education is beneficial only for those who want to become priests or Sanskrit teachers,” T.V. Rajeswar told the convocation of Sampoornand Sanskrit University in Varanasi.
“If you want to succeed professionally, earn Rs 2-3 lakh a month or go abroad… you must be proficient in English. If you only learn Sanskrit, you will remain cut off from the rest of the world and continue to live in the bullock-cart age.”
The governor seemed to be least aware of the fact that he was delivering speech in Varanasi which has struck a deep emotional chord with Sanskrit,being highest seat of the Sanskrit scholars since time immemorial .It also proved that political creatures cannot get above their habit of delivering run-out-of-the-mill speeches,keeping some vested interests in mind .How can he ignore the fact that eminent scholars like S.Radhakrishnan , Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya ,Swami Vivekananda and others stressed upon the need to study Sanskrit in order to have authentic knowledge of the Indian culture .
Shri. V. Sundaram, a former IAS officer, in of his article writes that “it is evident that the ancient scientists of language in Vedic India who had mastered the Sanskrit language were acutely aware of the function of language as a tool for exploring and understanding life. Their intention to discover truth was so total and all consuming that in the process of using language with greater and greater vigour, they discovered perhaps the most perfect tool for fulfilling such a search that the world has ever known – the Sanskrit language.”
“Justly it is called ‘Sanskrit’. The very name ‘Sanskrit’ means ‘Language brought to formal perfection’. Professor Frederich Sehlegal, the great German Sanskrit Scholar who established the first Chair of Indology in Germany at Hanmoben, paid this tribute to the beauty and glory of Sanskrit language in the 19th century: ‘Sanskrit means perfect, finished. Sanskrit combines these various qualities possessed separately by other tongues: Grecian copiousness, deep-tone Roman force, the divine afflatus characterising the Hebrew tongues. Judged by an organic standard of the elements of language, Sanskrit excels in grammatical structure and is indeed the most perfectly developed of all idioms, not excepting Greek and Latin.”
One should be aware of the fact that combination of Sanskrit and Philosophy helps one to attain the highest plane of thought.I don’t think visiting abroad ,earning 2-3 lakhs a month and etc. are the cherished goals of life.Is a priest who is living life of purity exists on a lower pedestal than so-called classy professionals ,earning in five digits , but chased by ills of modernity ? It should not sound strange that people of ” bullock-cart age ” lived a much better life than people belonging to modern times , who are paying a heavy price for ignoring the laws of nature It’s time to ask what makes people of this nation feel ashamed in honouring and identifying with the ancient roots of this nation ?
It’s really strange that academicians of some prestigious institutions pass dubious remarks about the features of Hinduism.They make no effort in providing concrete evidences in support of their logic other than quoting views of foreign scholars who themselves relied on borrowed sources while encircling the attributes of Hinduism.Recently,one of my friends on one prominent website informed me that there are some who feel that “Ram, Tulsi, Shivaji, Ranapratap etc are icons of ancient and retrograde India”.
One does not expect fleeting observations on the doctrines ,based on Hinduism,from institutionally accredited academicians .Even a casual study of the Hindu scriptures would reveal anyone that Hinduism reverberates with universal principles. The religion which enabled Gandhiji to rise above various kinds of pressures ,leading to emergence of ‘Ramrajya’ cannot serve the purpose of sectarian minds . Had Hinduism been basket of narrow perceptions ,it would have never served the cause of ignited minds like Vivekananda and Radhakrishnan.
Why don’t the Communists and others pen well-researched pieces on minority institutions openly promoting divisive ideas ?What’s preventing them from dwelling upon the lofty elements of Hinduism ,from expressing Hinduism in its true colurs ? If Gandhiji can loudly proclaim “Isavasyam Idam Sarvam”(all this manifest Universe is enveloped by the Divine, the Lord) then what’s preventing others to give way to it ?
