The boy who would now be known to the world as Pax Thien Jolie was brought to the Tam Binh orphanage when his mother abandoned the infant immediately after child birth at Tu Du obstretics hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.

The hospital authorities tried to search for the mother for 30 days, but admitted him to the orphanage failing any response from the parents, Nguyen Van Trung, director of the orphanage revealed.

The boy was called Pham Quang Sang, as the name was the only thing left by his biological mother on his file. Submitting names for the child, one for a boy and a second for a girl just before the labor is a standard practice in Vietnamese hospitals, because many women perish in the very process of childbirth. Pham is quite a famous name in Vietnam; the second two names together mean ‘bright light.’

When Angelina Jolie applied for adoption of a healthy boy between ages 3 and 5, Pax was the only one at the Tam Binh orphanage who met the criteria. Although there were 31 other boys in the specified age group, but all of them had relatives or were not ‘healthy.’ Trung was quoted saying,

Only Sang met the set criteria for adoption in general and her request. She was lucky at the time she applied that there was this boy who met the request and criteria.

If the actress had not whisked the boy from the orphanage, some other foreign family would have most likely adopted Pax, Trung adds. Vu Duc Long, head of Vietnam’s International Adoption Department said,

At present, there are more [foreign] requests for adoptions than there are eligible children for adoptions. There is more demand than supply.

I feel that the little boy was destined to fame and was thus adopted by the celebrity couple.
