The Tom Cruise starring movie Valkyrie, that has kindled an immense amount of controversy both inside and outside the film industry, has finally been given the green signal to go ahead by the German government in an amazing turnaround of decision. Shooting can now commence at the shrine where National hero Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg was executed.

The movie is based on the July Plot of German officials to assassinate the Nazi leader Fuhrer Adolf Hitler and illustrates a vivid account of the leader of that failed assissination attempt Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg. With Bryan Singer as the director and Tom Cruise playing the role of Stauffenberg, Valkyrie is supposed to be the movie that reaveals the greatness of Stauffenberg but Cruise’s casting in the movie also invited a string of controversies.

Cruise’s belief in the Scientology, whose main obective is to get the individual being back to its native state of total freedom, thus gaining control over matter, energy, space, time, thoughts, form, and life, has earned a lot of criticims from the German politicians who are firmly against the American actor playing the role of their national hero; they say that Stauffenberg’s worth would be decimated should Cruise play his role. Many are convinced that this was the actual reason why the German Defence Ministry refused permission for the film to be shot at the site where Stauffenberg’s execution occurred although the reason stated for refusal was bad experience with past film crews.

But now there has been a change of heart at the Ministry after lots of criticisms. The ministry has accepted to grant permission to the crew to shoot the movie at Bendlerblock, where the plot leader died shortly after the bomb they planted injured Hitler in 1944.

The spokesman for the Finance Ministry told the German newspaper Bild:

There was a change of sentiment at the ministry of defense. The latest request by the film team was given a positive answer. There was a different feeling about the project. We will take a closer look with director Bryan Singer at the location and, while ensuring that the dignity of the shrine is protected, see what’s possible and what’s not.

This sudden U-turn does come as a surprise to many who felt that the controversy would drag on for some more time. But no one’s complaining that a solution has been found. The inspirational tale of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, who constructed the plot to assassinate German dictator Adolf Hitler but failed in his objective and was killed, can now be relayed to the entire world. Come August 8, 2008 when the movie is slated for release and the world would be singing songs about Stauffenberg.
