Another shocking incident has revealed the ‘inside story’ of the work environment in the news channels. On Wednesday, a 24-year-old reporter, Priya Singh, from a television news channel, Total TV, committed suicide in her Noida residence.

Priya’s roommate found her hanging from the ceiling with a duppata at her Sector 19 home around 8:30 PM on Wednesday. She has blamed two of her bosses, in a note left behind, for forcing her to end her life.

Later, the Police arrested Total TV’s output editor Tapan Bharati and executive producer Umesh Joshi. Paresh Pandey, Noida SP, said:

Priya has mentioned in her suicide note that Bharati and Joshi were not allowing her to make progress at work. A case of abetment to suicide has been registered against both.

He later said:

Both, Pandey and Joshi, have claimed that Priya’s statements written in the note are overstated. They denied exploiting her professionally.

According to the report, handwriting experts are examining the suicide note found from the sector 19 flat to verify the handwriting. The post-mortem report has confirmed that Priya died of hanging from the neck.

Priya was a reporter on the crime beat and originally belonged to Patna. She occasionally anchored news bulletins too. One year ago, she had joined the TV channel and shared her flat with a friend Tanuja, a software engineer.
