Will Arnold Schwarzenegger return as The Terminator?

Ever since he delivered the 1984 mega-hit Terminator – the first movie in the Terminator franchise – the term Terminator has gotten synonymous with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold, who played T-800, a humanoid robot from the future in this movie, was propelled to instant stardom when it hit the screens and created a sensation. The success was followed by 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day and 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Also, the latest in the Terminator series, Terminator Salvation which had only a computer generated likeness of Schwarzenegger for a brief cameo, hit the theaters in 2009 and grossed $371 million as well.

Fully aware of the value of being associated with the Terminator franchise, which is currently owned by hedge fund Pacifor, Schwarzenegger has hinted that he would love to be back as “The Terminator” when his tenure as the governor of California ended; provided the script was to his likeness. He has even given Hollywood agency CAA the green signal to discuss the possibilities of a new sequel to Terminator. Sources in the film industry are positive about Justin Lin, the director of Fast Five being roped in to direct the new Terminator sequel. However, the sequel still has no screenwriter currently working on it.

Recently, there has also been a strong speculation that the 63-year old action-hero would make a comeback in an animated series The Governator (a title derived from combing the words “governor” and “Terminator”) after he leaves the California governor???s mansion. How successful this would be cannot be prophesized, but one thing is for sure, the global audience will never tire of having Arnold Schwarzenegger back as “The Terminator”.
